How do you build employee loyalty and keep them on the job?

Your organization’s employee turnover rate is getting higher every year? Don’t know how to keep employees in the workplace? Find out the opinions of employees working in companies of different sizes around the world and build your plan to make your employees stay with you for longer!

  1. According to 94% of employees, the primary policy that would convince them to stay with the company is training and development (source: Clear Company, 2021).
As many as 94% of employees say that the company’s provision of training and development opportunities is an argument that would convince them to stay with the company. Training policies should be diligently implemented. Unfulfilled promises can have the opposite effect of disappointing employees.
  2. Another fact that illustrates the importance of the training process among employees is “70% of employees are relatively willing to leave their current job to work for a company that invests in employee development and learning” (source: PRNewswire, 2019).
  3. A well-functioning LSM is considered by 72% of surveyed companies as a factor that increases their competitiveness (source: Axonify, 2018).
  4. Opportunities for self-development in the workplace are not only an important aspect for current employees, but also for future candidates, as “nearly half of employees (46%) consider development opportunities when choosing a workplace” (source: SHRM, 2022).

The above studies undoubtedly illustrate the importance of training processes in organizations. An investment in training is an investment in current (and future) employees, thereby increasing the company’s attractiveness in the labor market.

Effective training system – how to build it?

Going a step further, it is worth considering how to build an effective training system. How to meet the demands of employees without significantly depleting the company’s budget? Learn some tips that will satisfy not only employees, but also management!

  1. The most preferred way of learning for 70% of employees is online/self-paced training, then online instructor-led training (63%), & hybrid learning opportunities (62%) (source: SHRM, 2022). The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many aspects of our lives, with many daily activities shifting to the virtual world. Online training is growing in popularity. Employees appreciate the ability to participate in training anywhere, anytime, and to connect from any device. When planning a training system, consider online training, which is usually more accessible and less expensive than traditional training.
  2. 58% of surveyed employees like to learn or train at their own pace (source: LinkedIn Learning, 2021). More and more people are paying close attention to flexibility – including in training. Training should be tailored to individuals’ preferences and skills. The process of acquiring knowledge can vary depending on the level of knowledge already possessed, the form of training, work experience, or the number of examples discussed. It is important to allow employees the opportunity to train at their own pace, on an individual basis. Training in large, diverse groups is less effective.
  3. Hard skills training is important, but don’t forget soft skills. 88%, or nine in 10 employees, want to be trained in hard skills. However, soft skills are also a priority for 84% of employees (source: SHRM, 2022). Soft skills are very important in the communication process between departments and beyond. A company where people know how to communicate effectively with each other deals more quickly and efficiently with encountered problems.
  4. Behind well-functioning departments in a company are their leaders. However, in many companies, the role of leaders is taken by people who lack leadership competence and adequate training. This problem is also recognized by executives – according to 55% of CEOs, the biggest problem is creating a new generation of leaders (source: Deloitte, 2022). Remember that a change in the organizational structure should carry with it adequate preparation in the form of managerial training.

Employee development is important

As you already know, employee development is important, and a well-organized training system is the first step to an organization’s success.
Remember to listen to your employees and learn about their individual needs and talents when planning a training system. Identified talents should be skillfully developed, taking care not only of hard competencies, but also soft ones, which are the basis of good communication in the company.
